Visitors can admire its ornamental elements such as the barley-sugar columns on the facade or its two towers. Inside there are several remarkable rooms such as the Sal\u00f3n Azul styled from the period of Spain\u2019s Queen Isabel, the Sal\u00f3n de Plenos meeting hall and a chapel in which mass is held. Throughout the various rooms in the building, visitors can admire interesting works by Padilla, Cabrera, Amor\u00f3s and Alicante\u2019s own Gast\u00f3n Castell\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the foot of the building\u2019s main staircase is the so-called \u201cCota Cero\u201d &#8212; the reference point from which the altitude of Spain\u2019s various cities is measured in metres above sea level. A modern building has recently been constructed alongside the Ayuntamiento. On the ground floor of these municipal premises, visitors can view the interesting archaeological remains on display under the heading of \u201cAlicante, la ciudad descubierta\u201d or \u201cAlicante, the city unveiled\u201d.
